Best Huron County Baseball Player Ever?

Paul and I will be covering the Tribune's Huron County Baseball and Softball Tournaments this weekend, which got me thinking:
I am not originally from Huron County so I don't know much about this area's sports history other than from the past six years or so.
But I do love a good best player ever debate, so I am asking for anyone to provide their insights as to who is the best baseball player ever from Huron County. Also, please provide some reasons for your selection.
I am very curious to see what you guys come up with.

Thanks for the help,

Seth

Plenty happening on Facebook maybe you go over there. The blog is old and outdated.

I think the blog was very good for a long time. Wish it could get back there, but it takes time.

The baseball question was a good example of what it could be. But not much response. How many hits does the blog get is a week?

Besides some of the best player debate....what about some of the best baseball teams in Huron County? I remember when I was in school back in the late 90's/early 2000's, Bad Axe always had a solid baseball program and Owen-Gage had a solid baseball teams in the early 2000's for a small school, before North Huron started dominating the NCTL.

Well, I'll stay on subject. A long, long time ago there was a pitcher from Ubly that was very good. He had only three finger due to an accident.

Back in those years...1920's...30's, the Tigers (and most major league teams) used to play exhibition games vs. any local team.

My Dad told me of this unsual pitching phenom ...I believe his last name was Wyrick and he and an Ubly (or all-star county team?) defeated the Tigers, leaving the major leagueres flummoxed and beaten by Wyrick's very deceptive pitches.

Before TV, 1950 and going back decades, baseball was the sport of young men. I would bet every town in the county had good teams, made of players that knew how to play the game, but high school players?

This local team was not high schoolers. Wyrick was in his 30/40s at the time.

There have been some good players lately, but none that are 'pro' quality. As a matter of fact, no town has a 'pro' quality baseball player. Also, no town has a 'pro' quality football or basketball player.
I asked around, Steve Weber from Ubly plays baseball at junior college and Pete Salens of Bad Axe plays at Albion.
They were obviously good players, but baseball is not followed like it used to be. I know teams like Bad Axe, Ubly, USA, Harbor Beach and North Huron have been very solid for many years.
Can they win a regional probably not, but neither can a basketball team.

Reggie Ignash signed a minor league contract after graduating from Laker High some twenty years ago. Last local athlete I remember to play pro baseball.

Another kid from Lakers signed-left handed pitcher and when Yale and Croswel were in league 2players signed (righty, lefty) Also, jeremy bloor of marlette was signed to pro contract.
I agree with the previous post about Bad Axe, Ubly, North Huron and Harbor Beach having solid programs.

One of the best players I ever saw play was Jordan Bitzer from USA. He was a naturaly gifted athlete who probably could of played college baseball.
I know he never got the recognition he deserved on the diamond, like he got on the football field or court, but he was simply impressive.
I know this is not huron county but close.

J.D. Wheeler was the most recent to sign a "pro contract" he signed with the Brewers organization after pitching a year of JC and a year at CMU. Ignash was good but if I remember correctly he wasn't even the best player on that team. Jeremy Esch and Eric Wissner were both very good players that went onto play college ball (Esch SVSU, Wissner Ferris State).

As a team I would put that '92 Laker team up against anyone in the area in a 5 game series.

Best players I played against were Dennis Bushey from Kinde, pitcher who played minor league ball for the Tigers in the 70's. Bill Eisinger from Bad Axe who played in early 70's was a power hitter supreme, a very good pitcher and played professionally down in Panama. Rob Alexander from Cass City pitched in early 70's and played professionally, I believe with the Kansas City Royals organization. Matt Ney from Bad Axe played in early 70's and played 4 years of college ball at Northwood.
