I would have to say Bad Axe played a better game against Ubly. At least they scored, and not once, but 3 times!! I guess the NCTL curse is now on Deckerville.

Eagles were a much better opponent in '08 and '09. In fact, this is the most uninspired/overmatched Deckerville team I've ever saw vs Ubly.

Maybe the fact they could play Nouvel in the districts has put a fire on under these 'cats.

They looked like a Div7 championship contender tonight.

One positive out of HB in the last couple weeks is they waited till Week 8 to have their homecoming when Mayville came to town. Pretty uncommon for a Homecoming to be that late in the year. Leave it to HB to avoid scheduling it for when Ubly was there a few weeks ago.

I think coming into 2010 season with a new Varsity Team because of all the graduates.....Ubly is doing FANTASTIC!!!!

Keep in mind anon, Ubly led BA 50-6 at the half.
Second team played entire second half giving up the scores. You can't go patting BA on the back for putting 22 on Ubly when the starters were out.
Nice try!

They at least put 6 points on the Ubly starting defense. Deckerville never came close to doing anything on offense. Ubly has won 8 of the last 10 against Deckerville since Sweeney became coach. Looks like Brown has met his match.

As for HB, of course they are going to schedule homecoming with Mayville. That is the only way they are sure to have a win on Homecoming

Ubly fans are getting a little full of themselves.

how long do we have to put up with this Bad Axe coaching staff, how many years do we have to give them. We have to be the worst team in the State every year.

The job that Sweeney and Becker have done at Ubly has just been amazing. Major props for having the team ready to play week in and week out. Does anyone think the competition has gotten worse all around over the past few years or is Ubly just that good?

Anonymous said...

Ubly fans are not full of themselves....they are just enjoying the ride...and why shouldn't they? As all good things, their ride will end and it will be someone elses turn.

It's a little soon to be calling Ubly a D7 title contender. They have not faced the quality competition this year that they have in the past.

True, Ubly hasn't faced really good competition this year. As is the case every year, you find out just how good you are once you leave the thumb and venture outside the area in the playoffs. Depending on who they get in the first round (if it really does turn out to be Nouvel), they could be 1 and done. But, I wouldn't get on the Ubly fans too much, after all, their team has won 31 straight regular season games. You can all sit there and say "but their competition hasn't been that good", but your team must of been included in that bad competition. And as far as Deckerville goes, I guess they found out how good they really are once they ventured out of the NCTL. I predict a 1 and done for Deckerville, too. If you can't beat a team the likes of Marlette, don't expect to go very far in the post season. Get used to it because it looks like this will be the trend for you in years to come. Beat up on lowly NCTL teams and get your butt handed to you when you walk outside that NCTL door. And while I'm on my rant, I might as well tell you what I think of Bad Axe. Wasn't coach Roland the head coach at Ubly before he came to Bad Axe? And didn't Ubly make the playoffs with him as head coach? Let me answer that for you---YES and YES!!! So that tell's you right there the problem isn't the coaching. The problem is and always will be the parents and administration in Bad Axe. You have to have coachable kids and when parents and admin. get in the way of the coach this is what you end up with. It really doesn't matter who you put in the coaching position in Hatchetland, your outcome will always be a losing season. So you Bad Axe parents need to remember this: If you do what you've always done, then you'll get what you've always gotten. Enough said.

I wouldn't be to excited Ubly, you did need the pass to take over that game. Deckerville's run defense was solid against Ubly. Ubly had to pass early. Deckerville's secondary was getting burned and they have been terrible all year. Then Ubly could run once it hit around 28-0 because it seemed as if Deckerville threw in the towel. As far as playoffs if Ubly meets Nouvel, bye bye Ubly. Nouvel is pretty good and I think Ubly is overrated even after this win. I mean NCTL was having good success against your run offense. Deckerville is hard to tell. Based off of last years draws they would be facing spread teams that will throw like crazy if needed, which is Deckerville's weakness. Could be early exits for both.

Anonymous said...

yes, Ubly must be overrated since they have not been beaten by a local team since 2007. That must mean that one of the teams that they have at least a three game winning streak on must be better than them. Who are you comparing them to? If Ubly is overrated then the rest of the area must be really bad because only one local team has played with them this year, and that is Sandusky.

Anonymous said...

Ubly did what any good team would do against an opponent who put 9 in the box. They passed to the toon of 3 long TD's. You said "Deckerville's pass D has been terrible all year". I can see why with only 2 db's. You said "Ubly could only run After they were up 28-0". I thought thats what FB is all about. Run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run.

Here's my take on the Bad Axe situation: In our area we do not have enough kids in our high schools to offer as many sports as some schools do (Bad Axe, Harbor Beach, EPBP, USA, etc.). I am not trying to say disband either football or soccer, that wouldn't be fair to the students. Coaches need to find a way (it would be hard) to give students the option to play both sports. It seems that the schools that have gotten good soccer programs within the last ten years have taken a hit in football (no pun intended). I know for a fact that Bad Axe has many great student athletes, however they choose to play soccer. I'm sure many of them would love to play football, but the coaches at Bad Axe all seem to be in competition with each other, rather than working with each other to benefit the students.

I'm guessing they were referring to Ubly's state ranking as overrated, obviously not overrated in the area. I can kinda see the point on that too. I just don't think this is quite the Ubly team people think but hey no disrespect here they ARE top dog in the area.

As a person with interest in Huron County Football, Ubly is about the only thing consistent. They continue to step up to the challenge every week. I believe the rest of schools who make up the whole conference should be ashamed of the way they compete. Parents most especially need to get on the ball and gets their kids competing, with effort and passion. If the Ubly kids can do it, the rest of the schools need to step up as well. Very Sad!!!

I have an idea. Let's go on a blog & take away from what the 15-18 year old kids from Ubly have accomplished over the years. Then lets slam the 15-18 year old kids from other schools who are part of the weak competition that Ubly plays. That seems to be a great idea. Lets publicly treat these kids that play for c & d schools, that gave up a month of their summer, like they are professional athletes & we are sports commentators.
i read the comments on the thumb tailgater blog about ubly & other teams, i listened to 92.1 at 10:00 am on saturday & i look at this blog right now & i can honestly say it is embarassing for all the schools & their athletes what these conversations turn in to. these are high school kids, who simply seem to not be able to please the few idiots that go on these forums & comment. i believe that the comments on this blog (or others) about teams being "overrated" or not "coached well" or someone "has met their match" are childish & come from individuals that athltically probably could not run around the block without grabbing their knees. these blogs have become an absolute embarrassment for thumb sports. too bad for not only the ubly players, the deckerville players & all schools covered in the area. way to make a mockery of them sacrificing their time & effort to represent all of you naysayers.

Please, that's what wrong with kids today. Even when they are bad they are told they are the best, then when it comes to a real world situation they can't handle the truth.

On another note I sure hope who ever the next coach at EPBP is can turn this thing around. Looks as if the boys in green stopped playing for George.

it is the job of parents, teachers, coaches, etc. to hold kids accountable. they provide the truth to the kids. not for a blog of blowhards to be critical. what is spewed on the blogs is not "truth" it is purely opinion based on porous logic. the idea that kids can't handle the truth is a cliche that has been used for at least 3 generations of kids. i bet you walked uphill both ways to school. i love it when people say "that is what's wrong with kids today." & that gives you the right to criticize & conjole. it is also funny that as soon as someone points out a blog as a bunch of idiots spewing nonsense, the bloggers get all defensive. maybe that is what is wrong with society today.

Never said Ubly was a not a good team. They quite obviously are the best in the area. What I meant was the do not have the competition of old. USA, Harbor Beach, & Deckerville are not what they have been in the past. Ubly struggles with teams that have a balanced offense, i.e. Hudson, previous Harbor Beach teams, & even Deckerville last year. I wont even mention TC St. Francis because they are on a whole different level. Dont get me wrong, Deckerville was a run first offense last year, as they always have been, but they were able to open it up against Ubly and score 30 some points. Not taking anything away from Ubly or the kids, just simply food for thought. I know people will jump on me for the Deckerville comment, but the last 3 scores were on Sweeney's starters. Speak little when you lose, & speak even less when you win.

well mister deckerville fan why dont you ask coach brown why they where is ubly tapeing our practice. and as far is UBLY being overrated thats not ublys fault thats what the newspapers print and where do you guys here the saginaw nouvel will be d7 with there enrollment!

No I didn't walk up hill both ways to school but I can tell you I worked hard all year and didn't blame anyone but myself when something went wrong.

I have been dealing with student athlete’s everyday for the last 12 years and I can tell you athletic ability (for the better) has changed and so has the attitude (for the worse). Student athletes as little as 5 years ago would run through a brick wall if you asked them to, now they want everything handed to them. A sense of urgency is lacking in today's youth because they have been brought up in the "everyone is a winner" society. Winning isn't easy, you have to work for it and if you don't feel the need to put in the time then don't expect to win. I'd like to see the difference between the winning teams (i.e. Ubly) and the losing team (i.e. Bad Axe) and how much time they spend in the off season working on strength, speed and flexibility. I bet there is a big difference.

I'm pretty sure the point of a blog is to express your opinion. If they are people out there that do not agree then they can post too. Bashing specific kids shouldn't be done (I agree with you there, and I have not seen that on here).

Bravo, EPBP ‘92

Great post. You obviously know the situation inside public education well.

Putting in the time is exactly where its at!

Look at USA girls softball. They put in a huge amount of time to be the best. Perhaps an even better example is the Deckerville Girl’s BB team. They didn’t finish near the top of the GTE, didn’t have the overall talent to beat out Sandusky, Brown City or Harbor Beach (three teams that also put in the time) but they learned a lot about themselves and their abilities and made it to the Class D regional final in ’09 and the State Quarterfinals last winter.

Of coarse talent has a lot to do about how well a team finishes, but a good work ethic places the teams that practice quality values ahead of those who don’t.

It’s a fleeting thing, when talent, coaching and ethics all merge together. Its devilish perhaps, that pride of accomplishing something that will live in the soul of the warrior until they die.

My old neighbor and I talked a lot of high school football over the years and nothing made him stick out his chest more than the 1973 Arthur Hill football team he was a part of that went 9-0 and outscored their opponents 443-0. Paled my Bearcats of 1972 that went 9-0 and outscored the opposition 357-54.

One thing we did have in common was the time spent during the summer. No coaches, no supervision of any kind, but we put in the time whenever we could to practice the small things like snaps and passing coverage, weight lifting and endurance running.

The stellar teams make the effort…the whiners don’t.

I think it pretty unfair that the GTE will not let Deckerville be the class D school they are and must keep comparing them the GTE teams and the NCTL will not accept Deckerville in to the league they should be in.

falcon101 said...

to anonymous on 10-22-10: What are you talking about? The NCTL did accept Deckerville into their league. And what's this about the GTE not letting Deckerville be the class D school that they are? Deckerville is no longer in the GTE and in my business travels, I spend a lot of my week on the east side of the thumb (Harbor Beach, Sandusky, Marlette, etc...) and believe me, nobody in the GTE is talking about Deckerville, let alone comparing them to the GTE. They're history....over and done with. Deckerville is now one of the NCTL "ELITE". Enjoy your ride!!

Hudson's offense was far from balanced. They ran the ball 95% of the time.
