  1. I'll give it a go. I dont know much about the bigger schools (D1-D4) or the west side schools, but like you said...its fun!

    DIVISION 8
CONTENDERS: Crystal Falls Forest Park, Beal City, Climax Scotts, Fowler
DARKHORSES: Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, New Lothrop
FINALS: Climax Scotts over Forest Park
*Dont know what to thin on New Lothrop as they dont play any nonconference games. Tough to gauge them.

    DIVISION 7
CONTENDERS: Ravenna, Hudson, Ishpeming, Mendon, Ubly
DARKHORSES: Saginaw Nouvel, Petersburg-Summerfield, Warren Collegiate
    FINALS: Hudson over Ishpeming
*Ishpeming gave TCSF a game last year in playoffs (lost 28-20) and returns quite a few from that team.

    DIVISION 6
CONTENDERS: Suttons Bay, Ithaca, Constantine, Monroe St. Mary Catholic
    DARKHORSES: Ecorse, Montrose, Clare
    FINALS: Constantine over Ithaca

    DIVISION 5
CONTENDERS: Muskegon Heights, Madison Heights Madison, Grand Rapids West Catholic, Jackson Lumen Christi, Menominee
    DARKHORSES: Freeland, Birch Run
FINALS: Jackson Lumen Christi over Menominee
*Muskegon Heights is only 5-4 but played a brutal schedule, wouldnt be surprised if they won 2-3 games

    DIVISION 4
CONTENDERS: Country Day, Marine City, Lansing Sexton, Zeeland West
DARKHORSES: Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Kingsford, Williamston
FINALS: Lansing Sexton over Country Day

    DIVISION 3
CONTENDERS: Mt. Pleasant, East Grand Rapids, Orchard Lake St. Mary's, Zeeland East
    DARKHORSES: Saint Johns, Mason
FINALS: East Grand Rapids over Orchard Lake St. Mary's

    DIVISION 2
CONTENDERS: Grand Ledge, Farmington Hills Harrison, Lowell, Birmingham Brother Rice
    DARKHORSES: Midland Dow, Rochester Adams
    FINALS: Harrison over Lowell
*Crazy thing is, Harrison and Lowell could both lose in the first round

    DIVISION 1
CONTENDERS: Rockford, Canton, Detroit Catholic Central, Detroit Cass Tech
DARKHORSES: Macomb Dakota, Holland West Ottawa, Lake Orion
FINALS: Canton over Detroit Cass Tech

    Dan, thanks for the input.
    1. I would love NOT to see TCSF in the D7 finals.
    2. It would be great to see a Detroit PSL team in the finals...
    Thanks again.

  4. Ubly could win Div 7. TCSF lost a lot of talent. If the stars align....You heard it here first.

  5. Ubly has to decied what team they put on the field and it better be thier A-team and play one game at a time or It will end up alot different than the Sandusky game did. You dont want to give any of the next 5 teams a damn thing except a good down home thumb football whooping. Go Cats!!!!

  6. I had a NIGHTMARE last night. I dreamt that Ubly lost to USA...like 32-6. I'm not going to predict anything!

  7. I don't think Ubly will beat Hudson.

  8. Divsion 7
Final Four: Ishpeming, Ubly, Hudson, and Waterford Our Lady of Lakes
    Finals: Ishpeming vs Hudson
    Winner: Ishpeming
Games to watch: Week 1: Reese vs Nouvel! Week 2: Ubly vs Nouvel, Roseville vs Shrine! Week 3: Ishpeming vs TCSF, Ubly vs Ravenna, Hudson vs Mendon Week 4: Ubly vs Ishpeming
Ubly has a very good chance this year, the only stoppers will be Ishpeming and Hudson! Ishpeming is better than you think and Hudson has alot of returning starers.

  10. M-Live has become M-Dead for most of the year. However a pair of legendary prognosticators from years past have chimed in for the play-offs…jason53 and caacmikey.

Jason53 hails out of the Detroit Metro area and must not have a life outside of high school football. It doesn’t matter whether he’s picking Div1 Detroit Metro or Div8 UP…he seems to be in the huddle for any team in the state.

Caacmikey simply makes the Free Press' Son of Swami a dried out fart. A sampling of caaacmikey…

”HOPKINS AT JACKSON LUMEN CHRISTIAN: LUMEN DOES A GREAT JOB WITH THE KIDS IN THE JOINT WHO HAVE FOUND GOD AND THEY WILL MOVE ON.”

“ST JOSEPH MICHIGAN LUTHERAN AT CLIMAX: I DONT THINK LUTHERANS ARE ALLOWED TO ENJOY CLIMAXES. ST JOE TO LOSE.”

Gotta love ‘em. Check them out at:

  11. I can see Ubly going far and I can also see Ubly laying an egg and losing to USA. Turnovers and penalties kill them. Ubly just grinds you down, 3,4,5 yards at a time. Throw a penalty into the drive and it kills them. When everything is clicking they can be scary. Becker and Sweeney will have them prepared, but most of their juniors are going to have to step up.

  12. Mlive has gone downhill the last few years, especially with Thumb talk. It used to be a good way to talk about football and basketball in the Mid-Michigan and Thumb areas. The East region might as well be renamed the Detroit and Suburbs region cause that is all that's posted about on there.

  13. Good Luck to all the Thumb-area teams!
